This Program is a response to the success of the introductory sessions presented from March to July in London, ON, that resulted in many follow up requests from people looking for additional guidance and support.
We will work hands-on with a select group of newcomers, to help them develop their plans to
launch a successful business.
Training
This is a 15hrs FREE training! Get ready to interact with business advisors, subject matter experts, and local small business owners who have experienced the journey of starting a business as immigrants in Canada.
The class will be hosted IN-PERSON at the London Small Business Centre (379 Dundas St. | Unit 220 | London, ON).
Outcomes
Throughout the class, participants will likely gain practical skills, knowledge, and perspectives necessary to start and grow their own businesses successfully in Canada.
- Understanding the fundamentals of creating a business plan and a solid business model to guide you.
- Learning effective workplace communication, language, and cultural skills to excel in the business environment.
- How to identify target customers and maintain your loyalty through effective market research.
- Learning how to define a clear mission and vision for your business, as well as setting achievable goals for growth.
- Understanding the basics of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and managing business finances.
- Gaining insights into legal and regulatory requirements for businesses, including taxation and compliance.
- Interacting with a representative from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to clarify tax-related queries.
- Exploring strategies for effective marketing and sales to attract and retain customers.

Learning about building a strong brand identity and leveraging digital marketing channels to reach a wider audience.

Olya Loshkin, Fanshawe College professor, specializing in workplace communication, language and culture. She has been teaching OSLT (Occupation-specific Language Training) programs to newcomers for almost 10 years now. Olya has a broad experience in international business and project management. In addition, she is a freelancer, developing educational workshops and providing training to immigrants.
